Nova Scotia (English, Nova Scotia, Latin origin, or New Scotland, Scottish Gaelic: Alba Nuadh) is a province of Canada, located on the Atlantic coast of the country. Nova Scotia covers a surface of 55.500 km ² whith a population of some 935.962 people saw (Nova Scotian). Nova Scotia’s capital is Halifax.
The continental part of Nova Scotia is a peninsula surrounded by Atlantic Ocean,including several bays and estuaries. The island of Cape-Breton, a large island in the North-East of the continental part, forms also a part of the province of Nova Scotia. No place of Nova Scotia is with more than 50 km of the sea.
The Natives of Nova Scotia were named the Intrigues.
Although the explorer Jean Cabot had visited Nova Scotia in 1497 for the crown of England, Nova Scotia was colonized for the first time by France. Samuel de Champlain and of Mounts based a colony on an island with the mouth of the River Holy-Cross in 1604. Drinking water missed in this island during the winter and, the following year, the colony was moved in Royal Port close to Annapolis Royal, in 1605.
During year 1620, the king Charles VI of Scotland and 1st from England sent a troop of Scotland, they founded a colony under the name of Nova Scotia. To this end, it founded baronetage from Nova Scotia: those which wished to acquire the title of baronet had to pay a tax which would be used for the establishment of the colony in Nova Scotia, and there would receive ground equipment. However, during the signature of peace with France, the Scottish/English Crown yielded the territory to France and the colonists Scottish had to give up their mission, thisbaronetage from Nova Scotia and its specificity was lost and became a simple peerage-book category.
In 1848 Nova Scotia became the first colony of the British Empire to reach the “self-government” or responsible government, where the British governor was to accept the decisions of the legislative assembly and the ministers.
Nova Scotia became, while entering the Canadian Confederation, one of the four provinces founders of Canada, with New Brunswick, Quebec (Canada-East), and Ontario (Canada-West).
The economy of Nova Scotia is today a mixed economy of services and of industry.
The primary sector of Nova Scotia occupy an important place in the local economy with in particular the forestry developments, agricultural and piscicultural. The industry of paste and paper includes/understands four factories of paste which are located at Port Hawkesbury, Pictou, Hantsport and Liverpool and finally, the principal agro-alimentary productions of Nova Scotia are those of milk, of apple and potatoes, while the most important: fishing is that of lobster and scallops. The ground is also very rich (iron, zinc, copper and especially coal). Also in Nova Scotia, offshore oil, rig oil was discovered with Sydney-Ice-Bay, the most important port of the Island of Cape-Breton, like in Halifax.
